I’ve also been working on my summer project for uni recently: a 16-page zine based on the words: disguise, concealment, subversion and deception.
I went on holiday a few weeks ago to Belgium, and visited the city of Stavelot. They have a tradition there, part of Laetare Sunday celebrations, in which men from the city dress up in white cloaks and wear masks with long red noses - these are ‘les blancs moussis’.
The city is clearly very proud of this tradition, and there are references to it everywhere, and the more I saw, the more curious I became, and the more excited I grew about making this the subject of my zine.
The zine is going to be in two languages - English (my own language) and French (the official language in Stavelot) - to reflect the fact that in Belgium anywhere even remotely tourist-y has everything in more than one language, because the country itself has three official languages, not to mention all the international visitors.
